This is for you Clive:
Our most popular fire escape ladder is the Chain model which comes in 3 lengths 14′, 25′ and 45′. Lightweight and simple to deploy even for young children. It comes in a cardboard box and inside the box the stand-off’s are packed separately. The stand-off’s can be fitted to any of the ladder’s rungs and this allows you to tailor the ladder to your building. When the ladder is delivered, it needs to be deployed and the positions best suited for the stand-off’s chosen. Retract the ladder and fit the stand-off’s using a Philips screwdriver, repack the ladder and discard the inner plastic bag. Your ladder is now ready for use. It can be stored under a bed or in a wardrobe. Remember to ensure that everyone in the household is familiar with the ladder and how to deploy it, this would also be a good opportunity to put a fire escape plan in place.
After yet another customer had to phone us to ask about some detail or other of our Chain Fire Escape Ladder we finally did something in order to answer your questions . There is a series of photos below which includes the measurements of all parts of the Chain Fire Escape ladder. We used a 25′ ladder for the photos but the measurements are the same for all 3 sizes. The most commonly asked question is which size ladder do I need? Go to your local Spar or Centra and buy a ball of string. Hold one end of the string in your hand and throw the ball out the window, measure the string and then you will know which size ladder you need.
If you examine the photos which can be zoomed by clicking on them and there is still some detail you need clarified do what Clive did and give us a call on 01 4433332 or email us.

MOBILE AND SAFETY STAIRS – Mobile Stairs for access to mezzanine floors or for use in warehouse applications. There are flexible top platform configurations to allow exit ‘to front’ or ‘to side’ off the top platform.
WAREHOUSE STEPS – Also known as Platform Ladders or rolling ladders they have a large stable platform at the top from which to work. These ladders are fitted with wheels to allow them to be moved easily and the wheels have some form of locking mechanism. The top platform has a guardrail to protect the operator. These steps are also available as folding steps which can be flat packed when not in use.
RETAIL/OFFICE STEPS – There are very few height access products which don’t look like they belong on a building site. The one exception to this is the Stepmobile Range of retail stepladders. This product is available in a range of 5 bright colors and can be easily cleaned. There are a range of platform heights available from 0.5m to 1.25m. The units have a very small turning circle allowing them to be used even in the most confined situations. Perhaps the cleverest element of these mobile step ladders is the wheels. The unit will move freely until weight is applied then the wheels retract and the unit locks into position.
FIRE ESCAPE LADDERS – Emergency escape ladder that provides a safe way to exit your home in the event of fire. Escape ladders are available in wire, chain, and webbing or in rope ladder format.
LADDER ACCESSORIES – Everything from new rubber feet to ladder racks for storage. Ladder Locks, Ladder Stabilisers, Little Giant Work Platforms and ladder stand-offs. The two most popular accessories we sell are the Roof Hook Kits which convert a standard aluminium ladder into a roof ladder and the ladder clamps used to secure a ladder to the roof rack of a vehicle.
LITTLE JUMBO SAFETY STEPS – This range of small step ladders is available as a 2 step, 3 step and 4 step. Ideal for retail outlets or offices, this folding step ladder is one of the best safety steps in the marketplace.
CUSTOM LADDERS AND FIXED LADDERS – We can solve your fixed ladder access problems with a range of custom made ladders manufactured to customer’s specifications. Typically these fixed ladders are installed to gain access to flat roofs or to service equipment like air conditioning units located at height. In order to quote for these products we require a suitable drawing of the project. We can then generate a quotation and timescale for the custom ladder or walkway.

Tuesday 6th May
The Minister for Labour Affairs, Mr. Billy Kelleher TD, has signed an amendment to the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations (SI 504 of 2006). The purpose of this amendment is to defer the implementation date by which workers undertaking certain tasks must have completed the CSCS training programme and be in possession of an appropriate CSCS card.
The amendment was made by Minister Kelleher following careful consideration of submissions made to him by industry and employer bodies and subsequent consultation with the Health and Safety Authority. The specified tasks to which the amendment relates are mobile tower scaffolds, signing, lighting and guarding on roads, locating underground services and shotfiring.
According to Paula Gough, Programme Manager with the Health and Safety Authority, “This amendment grants additional time to ensure that all relevant workers have received the appropriate training and are in possession of the relevant CSCS card. I urge all key parties to take advantage of this extension now and not delay in ensuring workers have successfully completed their training.”
The Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Construction)(Amendment) Regulations (SI 130 2008) stipulates that for the above specified tasks the requirements of the Construction Regulations 2006 will now apply from 6th July 2009.
The press release above was issued by the Health and Safety Authority on the 6/5/2008 and gives us some more time to get our house in order. A wise move in my opinion as there is still a lot of people who need training judging from the various phone calls we get on a daily basis.
In conclusion let me say a quick thank you to Tom O’ Reilly who informed me about the postponement of the CSCS mobile scaffold tower certification. The extra year will allow further talks between FAS and PASMA, who knows we may even see some agreement emerge over tower training but I think we may see pigs flying before an agreement can be brokered. I do feel very sorry for all the PASMA trainers who have given our industry many years of valuable service as they are effectively being made redundant by this new CSCS tower certificate, unless some agreement is reached.

Pity about the photos, in the flesh I am much better looking, I think.

ALUMINIUM SCAFFOLD TOWERS – Lightweight alloy access towers used extensively in the construction industry. A portable scaffold tower offers a level of safety when other access equipment is not suitable. Scaffold towers are available in 3 grades, Industrial towers, Trade Towers and Domestic Towers. We would recommend that commercial users have scaffold tower training before using these products. There are 3 internationally recognized standards for mobile aluminium access towers.
EN 1004 Class 1 – Maximum safe load for structure 1000kg
Maximum safe load per platform 300kg
EN 1004 Class 2 – Maximum safe load for structure 750kg
Maximum safe load per platform 250kg
EN 1004 Class 3 – Maximum safe load for structure 500kg
Maximum safe load per platform 200kg
In Ireland from May 2008 it is a legal requirement that operators of mobile scaffolding towers hold a valid CSCS certificate before erecting, moving or dismantling an access tower.
MOBILE ALUMINIUM PLATFORMS – This is a relatively recent development in height access equipment. Looking like a standard work platform where the operator is completely enclosed by guard rails this unit is fitted with a foot operated drive unit. Once the operator is on the platform they can then move the platform into other positions using the steering handle and foot pedal. The are 4 models in the range from a maximum platform height of 1.2m to 2.1m. Each model has 3 platform height settings. Most importantly with this mobile work platform there is no certified training required. The maximum workload capacity is 200kg.
LOFT LADDER AND ATTIC LADDERS – A retractable attic ladder will provide access to a loft or attic and slides or folds away when not required. Available as a sliding aluminium ladder or as a folding ladder in wood. There are also telescopic and concertina attic ladders Types and the full specifications and Attic Ladder Fitting Instructions are on the web site. Attic ladders are covered by two BS standards.
BS7553 CLASS H Rated for Heavy usage – max safe working load 150kg
BS7553 CLASS G Rated for General usage – max safe working load 100kg

This range of telescopic ladder offers a very wide variety of configurations and lengths. Telestep Ladders are available as Attic Ladders, Extension Ladders and Combination Ladders.
Telestep Attic Ladders
The Telestep attic ladder range has 2 great advantages over other types of attic ladders namely they can be fitted to an attic with a very small hatch size and they store above the hatch and therefore take up very little space in the attic itself. The Telestep attic ladder is available in 2 versions. The Telestep Black Line is an adjustable loft ladder for ceiling heights between 2.65m and 2.93m. The Telestep Black Line Mini will fit into a tiny attic hatch opening of 520mm x 600mm and it covers ceiling heights from 2.35m to 2.45m.
One of the Telestep ladder range family will fit 99.9% of attic spaces.
Telestep Combi Ladder
This is a hybrid ‘A frame’ ladder where one side of the ‘A’ can be extended. The ladder is therefore a free standing telescopic ladder. When not in use it can be stored in a cupboard. This type of Telestep Ladder is available in 3 different lengths.
Telestep Extension Ladder
The Telestep Extension Ladder has both a professional and domestic or home standard. Both standards come in a number of different lengths and there is a Telestep Ladder to suit everyone’s budget. This is one of those products where ‘every home should have one’.
The Telestep Ladder Black Line range comes in 2 lengths 3.3m and 3.8m. The Telestep Ladder Red Line Range which is their Home or domestic range is available in 2 different lengths 2.0m and 3.0m. The ability to store these ladders in a car boot or wardrobe makes them very useful.
